Shark Attack Statistics

Shark Attack Statistics

There are approximately 78 unprovoked shark attacks around the world per year. Of these attacks only 1 in 12, or 6 to 7 per year results in a fatality. These results are an average of the past 9 years and sum the attacks from the highest risk areas around the world.

In Australia shark attack statistics in 2015 increased from 2014. The total number of unprovoked attacks in Australia in 2015 was 22 with 1 fatalities. Compare this to just 11 attacks in 2014 and 2 fatalities.

Shark Attacks 2019

In 2019 there were 66 Unprovoked shark attacks around the world and only 4 of these were fatal. Of course this is still not great but there are much higher chances of someone being hurt or killed by things other than sharks while they are in the water. These Statistics came from the Florida Museum.
